5 Important Prayers For Your Family on Halloween

Halloween is a time when our kids are surrounded by spooky decorations, fun costumes, and candy-filled excitement. But as Christian moms, we also know that this day can come with a mix of emotions—whether it’s concerns about safety or wanting to keep the focus on Jesus in a season that can seem covered in darkness. That’s why prayer is so powerful.

By inviting God into the day, we can cover our families in His protection, peace, and light. We can also use prayer to soften the hearts of our neighbors who might not know Him yet! After all, no other night brings young families out of their homes quite like October 31. Here are five fervent prayers to help guide your family through Halloween with hearts and minds focused on Him.

1. A Prayer For Protection

“The LORD will keep you from all harm–he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” – Psalm 121:7-8

Prayer:

Father, I ask for Your protection for my family. During the Halloween season, my kids are exposed to so much darkness. Demons and death seem to be celebrated. Young children will come to our door dressed as characters in shows we don’t watch in our home, and our kids’ friends will wear costumes bordering on R-rated. Please shield my child’s heart and mind from the darkness. May the light of Your goodness and love shine the way tonight. Shield my child from dark images, dark thoughts, and anything else that seems to glorify everything that You are not. And keep my child physically safe. Thank You, Lord. Amen.

2. A Prayer For Christians to Be the Light

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16

Prayer:

Father, I admit I could be better at living out the Great Commission. I know You call us to go and tell others about You. But, I often let my insecurities get in the way of talking to people outside my circle. I just don’t know what to say. I’m not like my pastor, who can talk about You so easily. So, Lord, I ask that You help my Christian neighbors and my family make the most of the time with the people You bring to our doorsteps. Father, give us the words to say and help us let go of the lie that it’s our job to convict someone of the truth. That’s not the assignment You gave us. You just told us to go and tell. So, Father, let Your love and goodness shine through us on Halloween and every other day. Amen.

3. A Prayer For Non-Christians to Know Jesus

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” – John 14:6

Prayer:

Lord, I know there will be so many families walking around on Halloween night who don’t know You. And, Father, even more families will attend church fall festivals, not because they follow You, but because of the children’s activities and candy offered. Father, I ask that You use those moments to plant Your truth in their hearts and minds. I pray every non-believer meets one of Your followers whose love for You floods the conversation with grace. I know You can use one small encounter to change a person’s life completely. You showed us that with the woman at the well. Father, may more “well” moments happen on Halloween. Amen.

4. A Prayer For Spiritual Growth

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” – 1 Peter 2:2-3

Prayer:

Father, as we go through the Halloween season, help our family grow closer to You. Let us crave Your sweetness more than any candy. Use this time to strengthen our faith and open our hearts to see You in new ways. Help us to reflect Your goodness to others. Open doors for us to talk about You in simple but meaningful ways. And, Father, prompt our children to ask deeper questions about You. But don’t stop there! I can’t answer their questions without You! So, please give me the wisdom to answer correctly or point to your Word for answers. Thank You. Amen.

5. A Prayer For Kids Who Feel Scared on Halloween

“The Lord is my light, and he saves me. Why should I fear anyone? The Lord is my place of safety. Why should I be afraid?” – Psalm 27:1 NiRv

Prayer:

Jesus, I know Halloween can feel a little scary for the kids, and I ask You to bring Your peace into their hearts. Help them to remember that You are always with them, no matter what. When they see spooky costumes or decorations that make them feel afraid, remind them that You’re bigger than anything that seems scary. Wrap them up in Your love and keep them safe. Fill their minds with happy thoughts and help them enjoy the fun parts of tonight, knowing that Your light is always stronger than any darkness. In fact, bring to their minds Psalm 27, “The Lord is my place of safety. Why should I be afraid?” Thank You for watching over us, Lord. Amen.
