Are We There Yet?

From the beginning of time, man and woman were created for each other. God made all these lovely things -- birds, stars, flowers, man and more. Then He noticed that man should not be alone, so He created Eve. Things were so good in that moment that God was with them in the garden and they together had complete dominion over the earth and satisfaction as each other’s partners.

So us single women think to ourselves…ok I want that. Where is my Adam?!

I’ve gotten in my head several times with this thought and this craving for a relationship that feels divinely created. Especially now that I have a son, I desire a family that resembles Christ and the church and furthering His kingdom.

If the Adam and Eve verse didn’t bring out this craving in me, Psalm 37:4 sure did the trick: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Again…this IS the desire of my heart. Where is my Adam?!

But listen up, ladies. JESUS is our Adam in this season of singleness. Stay with me, I’ll explain.

In the times of needing a shoulder to cry on, Jesus is our comforter.

In the times of needing someone to listen to us, Jesus understands our heart.

In the times of loneliness, Jesus is our friend.

In the times of confusion, Jesus knows all.

In the times of craving a personal relationship, we can ask for tangible experiences of God’s unconditional love.

Of course, we won’t find physical satisfaction from Jesus. But all these emotions that we crave for a relationship to solve, Jesus confirms that He is and will prove to be the answer. We just need to shift our focus from earthly to heavenly.

When we have seasons of loneliness and the grass is greener syndrome, Psalm 34:18 says that Jesus is close to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. So not only is Jesus so near to our minds and hearts in seasons of loneliness and craving, but He will also rescue of us from these seasons!

Not the kind of rescue that ends up with a ring on our finger -- but the kind of rescue that leads to us feeling loved, feeling treasured, and feeling peace with our Lord.

Let us not forget Jesus’ promise to give us the desires of our hearts -- the desire to be loved. He so desperately desires to love us and complete that longing in our hearts. My friend, the “are we there yet?” thought is crippling. Jesus is in front of you, in front of me, standing with open arms, waiting to embrace us.

“Nothing high or low, thinkable or unthinkable -- absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.” (Romans 8:39)
