A Prayer for the Mom Who Feels Empty

Dear Lord,

I don’t want to feel like I’m just making it through the day. I feel empty, unable to pour out any more of myself.

My body is weary and my mind is often jumbled from lack of sleep. The many tasks before me seem mundane and never ending. Cooking, cleaning, driving, teaching, training — repeat. I know that my heart is not in the right place. I don’t feel the joy or vibrancy I long to feel as a daughter of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

In fact, I often feel resentful, forgotten, and stuck.

If You don’t fill me, I will stay in this place, but I know that I don’t have to rely on these emotions.

Father, I know that today is a gift from You. Every breath I take is meant to be filled with purpose and intention. I know that I am to rejoice in this new day that you have made! I want to, but I’m having a hard time keeping my chin up, much less feeling empowered to do something wonderful with my life as a mom.

Lord, You remind me in Your Word that I am to do all things, even the simple ordinary everyday things like eating and drinking, for the glory of God. But most of the time, I’m not thinking about You much at all.

Change me! Help me! Revive me!

God, You created my inmost being. You carefully formed every aspect of my body and my personality. I am loved, cherished, and gifted in Your eyes. You hung the stars in the sky and created the seasons. You know the number of hairs on my head and You catch every tear that falls from my eyes. You care for me!

I don’t want to feel defeated or useless. Fill my mind with Truth that You made me a mom at just the right time. You gave me my specific kids because I am the mom that they need. Nothing in my life is an accident. My ability to fold laundry, prepare meals, and speak in a gentle tone to my children is all an act of worship, if I choose to do it for You, Lord.

Jesus, You gave me Your life and took the punishment of my sin upon Yourself. I owe You my everything! Fill me with the joy of my salvation so that I can exude that even in the hard moments I may face today!

LORD, I DO LOVE YOU. THANK YOU FOR LOVING ME FIRST.

I have great purpose in being like Jesus today so that my kids will see what it is like to be loved by You, Oh Lord. My willingness to be patient, kind, forgiving, and self-controlled by the strength of the Holy Spirit can be life-changing for both me and my children. Give me the energy and focus I need today to set a happy and stable tone in my home that reflects my trust in You.

Father, even when my children fail, I don’t have to. Give me wisdom! Give me grace! Give me hope! Fill me with great expectations for how You will make this day one of purpose and joy, and keep me from temptation that I might not sin against You. Fill me with Your Spirit that I may radiate with the beauty of godly character.

Lord, thank You for this day, this moment, this life. Thank You for making me victorious! Go before me now, leading the way, and help me to honor You from sun up, till sun down.

In Jesus Name, AMEN!

What causes you to feel like you are running on empty? What promises can you remember to live victoriously? What is one practical thing you can do today to change the tone of your home?
