Love Is All That Matters

I admit -- I have an obsession. I absolutely love reading and following the Disciples of Christ, Saints, Christian Mystics. What I see over and over in their writings and their extraordinary lives of faith and love is that LOVE IS ALL THAT MATTERS! They knew what mattered to God.

“If you are a follower of Christ Jesus . . . all that matters is your faith that makes you love others.”

The ONLY thing that matters is having a faith that causes you to love other people. If you missed that you missed the most important thing in life. As I study the life of Joan of Arc (who was burned at the stake at age 18). I am in awe at her faith to do whatever it took to follow God, even giving up her life. God compelled her. She was guided by the kiss of heaven.

When we walk guided by God’s love we know NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. God will give us observances of living, tangible acts of love. Not acting out of duty but acting out of love.  But we need to take a step deeper into listening to the “kiss of love” as God propels us into shaping our hearts to make us more like his.

If we do something simply out of a sense of duty, we are trying to live up to a standard that competes with Jesus Christ. We will become prideful, arrogant person, thinking we know what to do in every situation. But when we do something out of obedience to the Lord, there is no explanation, only obedience. This is exactly why Saints can be ridiculed and easily misunderstood.

Living a life of LOVE IS ALL THAT MATTERS!

We’re all impressed by great speakers.  We love their charisma and eloquence, my question:  are we creating Christian Celebrities and not Christian Disciples?

“If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal” (1 Corinthians 13:1).

Living a life of LOVE IS ALL THAT MATTERS!

We live in a world exploding with technology and knowledge. We believe we are smarter than ever in human history, but are we really? Our knowledge is exploding but so is the rage in the world! Abuse, prejudice, violence, crime. The world is in a hot mess! The world doesn’t need more technology and knowledge. You may be a genius but if you have not love all your knowledge is worthless.

The Bible says:

“Even if I had the gift of faith so that I could speak to a mountain and make it move, I would still be worth nothing at all without love” (1 Corinthians 13:2, TLB).

Living a life of LOVE IS ALL THAT MATTERS!

As I go into various Churches and study I am aware of this myth that is downright dangerous to living a life of love. It is the myth that being a follower of Christ is just a matter of believing certain truths. It takes more than belief to please God.   Following Christ is about living a life of love.

“I may have the gift of prophecy. I may understand all the secret things of God and have all knowledge . . . But even with all these things, if I do not have love, then I am nothing” (1 Corinthians 13:2)

Living a life of LOVE IS ALL THAT MATTERS!

We must look at our motives for giving. Love isn’t always the motivation. Some people give out of guilt or for prestige or control. You can give for a lot of wrong motives, but the Bible says if you’re not doing it out of love, none of giving counts.   The next verse says:

“If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing” (1 Corinthians 13:3, NLT).

In this world we will experience many shadows, many dragons that are out to get us. Hang tight. The Dragons WILL NOT WIN! The shining brightness of heaven brings God into the world. We can be God’s radiant love to a dark world. It’s all about love.

Are you in a personal battle? I know I am, let’s stand up together and proclaim: YOU DON”T KNOW WHO I SERVE! The God of Love, whose love ALWAYS wins!

So today I bow before you Lord. Thank you that you have given me the “kiss of heaven” I KNOW that your love always wins. That you have what it takes to help me shape my heart to be more like yours.

"But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord for he has been good to me." (Psalm 13:5-6, NIV)
