10 Scriptures to Love Others Well

Where did you learn to love? Who taught you? Was it your parents? Your Sunday school teacher? A good friend? The Bible?

If it is the last option, then you looked to the perfect place. It could be also be a combination of all the above. The Bible is God’s handbook for us — He gave it to us so that we would know how to live life.

How great is it that we don’t have to wonder what to do, we can just know? If you want to learn how to love the people in your life well, here is God’s advice.

1. Pray without ceasing. Colossians 1:9 says “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives…” Pray for the ones you love, and pray for the wisdom to know how to love them well!

2. Listen without interrupting. Proverbs 18:2 Reads “Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.” Listen without trying to insert your own two cents.

3. Give without sparing. Proverbs 21:26 tells us “All day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing.” Don’t hold on to things and be selfish with your time and money, give what you have and feel fulfilled.

4. Speak without accusing. James 1:19 says “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry…”

5. Answer without arguing. Proverbs 17:1 tells us “Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.” This verse paints a very vivid picture of why we should pick our battles and watch our words.

6. Share without pretending. Ephesians 4:15 reminds us “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.” Don’t lie to the ones you love to spare their feelings, be loving in sharing the truth.

7. Promise without forgetting. Proverbs 13:12 says “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” Don’t make promises that you can’t keep. This builds false trust and will bite you in the long run.

8. Trust without wavering. 1 Corinthians 13:6-7 reads “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

9. Enjoy without complaint. Philippians 2:14 tells us “Do everything without grumbling or arguing…” This one is a tough one!

10. Forgive without punishing. Colossians 3:13 reminds us “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Nobody is perfect, and we all slip up, so having compassion and understanding is key to showing love in the trying times.

Love each other well.
