Take Every Thought Captive

Flaw. Flaw. Flaw.

I’m so sick of hearing that word echo in my mind.

Recently, I heard someone speak on having a victorious mindset and it’s been stuck in my head. This was just what I needed to hear to get out of this funk I’ve been in.

You guys, lies suck. FOR REAL.

It’s time to eradicate these from our thinking … impossible, you think?

NAH – LET’S DO THIS!

Here are some statistics about the lies we believe:

1. We have about 60,000 thoughts per day.

2. Ninety-five percent of our daily thoughts are habitual.

3. Twelve percent are thoughts based in fear and 80 percent are negative.

But we aren’t stuck with these old ways of thinking — we can form new neural pathways in the brain and disconnect the old thoughts! We all have thoughts that we habitually think about ourselves, others, or even how we feel about our place of work BUT what if I told you that you could change your relationships? All of them: family, friends, and your significant other.

This is a personal goal of mine and I want to invite you to join me in having a victorious mindset!

How do we do this?

— Start by recognizing our habitual thoughts.

— Write them out.

— Choose to take those thoughts captive and replace them with something else!

“THEREFORE, HAVING BEEN JUSTIFIED BY FAITH, WE HAVE PEACE WITH GOD THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, THROUGH WHOM ALSO WE HAVE ACCESS BY FAITH INTO THIS GRACE IN WHICH WE STAND, AND REJOICE IN HOPE OF THE GLORY OF GOD. AND NOT ONLY THAT, BUT WE ALSO GLORY IN TRIBULATIONS, KNOWING THAT TRIBULATION PRODUCES PERSEVERANCE; AND PERSEVERANCE, CHARACTER; AND CHARACTER, HOPE. NOW HOPE DOES NOT DISAPPOINT, BECAUSE THE LOVE OF GOD HAS BEEN POURED OUT IN OUR HEARTS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT WHO WAS GIVEN TO US.”  (ROMANS 5:1-5)

For so long, I lived life believing I would never be one who could do creative things and fully live up to the standard God has called me to. Here’s some really great news though: The standard He calls us to is not only to live out the desires He so generously and freely placed in our hearts, but that standard is to love people along the way. WE GET TO LOVE ALL PEOPLE, but how do we do that if we are stuck believing lies about ourselves? If we want to love others well, we have to take our thoughts captive and love ourselves well first.

Sometimes it just takes a little encouragement from someone to get you up and doing something that you’ve always wanted to do! WELL, here I am, letting you know that you CAN do anything you want to do. Get healthy, go for that early morning walk, spend more time with your family, write, paint, take up pottery, learn to play an instrument — whatever you feel a pull toward, go ahead and do it!

Don’t let negative thinking tell you that you shouldn’t or that you’re incapable. Training your brain to have healthy thinking doesn’t just apply to dreams for your life; it applies to everything. When you believe the BEST about YOU, then you will start to view others this way and it will teach you to have more grace and patience for those around you.

This is not something that happens overnight — it takes practice. Know that, when things get hard or you want to give up or even if you do give up, that I am here rooting for you! When that voice of negativity comes in and begins lying to you again, I want you to visit this post again and start the process fresh. Because the truth will set you free, let’s be intentional to feed our minds with a healthy and daily dose of truth. Don’t let anything stop you from getting the freedom that you have been called to.

xoxo
